Precision Engineered
on the Nile

Cuarzo del Nilo is DEXPRO's engineered quartz brand, built on the same verified export discipline DEXPRO applies to its mineral lines. Every slab is produced to consistent colour, density and finish tolerances and shipped through Egypt's principal export ports — Damietta, Port Said and Sokhna — to fabricators and distributors in North America and Europe.

Why Egypt, Why Now

Cuarzo del Nilo is produced on Breton technology — the Italian benchmark for engineered stone. Breton SpA invented the engineered stone process; their production lines set the global standard for surface quality, colour consistency and dimensional precision.

DEXPRO exports Egyptian engineered quartz slabs to the USA market, with the first confirmed trial shipment already arrived and quality verified at a US port — competing directly against Korean, Indian and German origins on both quality and price.

The structural duty advantage is decisive. Since 15 August 2026, quartz surface products from China, India, Vietnam, Turkey, Spain, Italy and other non-excluded origins pay a US safeguard duty of 25%, rising to 50% once the quota is used; those from China, India and Turkey also carry antidumping and countervailing duty orders. Egyptian-origin slabs are excluded from the safeguard and are not subject to these orders.

The offer in brief

Since 15 August 2026, quartz slabs from the main supplying countries, including China, India, Vietnam, Turkey, Spain and Italy, pay a US safeguard duty of 25%, rising to 50% once the shared quota is used. Egypt is on the list of excluded developing countries, so Egyptian quartz pays no safeguard duty and uses no quota. DEXPRO offers dedicated, quota-free supply of premium quartz slabs made on Breton lines in Egypt.

US duty on Egyptian slabs today: 0% base rate (HTS 6810.99.0020) plus the 12.5% Section 301 duty that has applied to all goods from Egypt since 24 July 2026. Your customs broker confirms the duty for each entry. See the US market comparison.

Handle With
Knowledge

Engineered quartz is inert and safe as an installed surface. The hazard is generated only during fabrication — cutting, grinding, drilling and polishing — when it releases airborne respirable crystalline silica (RCS) dust. This section summarises the GHS-aligned safety data DEXPRO issues with every Cuarzo del Nilo shipment.

⚠ Regulatory Alert — verified November 2026

California. On 21 May 2026 the Cal/OSHA Standards Board voted to start emergency rulemaking. Cal/OSHA published a draft emergency regulation in September 2026 and a revised draft on 22 October 2026. Both would prohibit the manufacture, fabrication and installation of artificial stone containing more than 1% crystalline silica. The rule is not yet adopted; the Standards Board must still vote, and an effective date has not been announced.

California's STOP Act (SB 20) has been in force since 1 January 2026: dry cutting is banned, and fabrication shops must hold a valid certification from 1 July 2027. Australia has banned engineered stone above 1% crystalline silica since 1 July 2024.

For these markets, Cuarzo del Nilo offers a low-silica range with a maximum of 1% crystalline silica, with a laboratory report for each batch. The standard range contains about 90% crystalline silica and should not be offered for California fabrication once the rule takes effect.

02Hazard Identification

Solid, installed slab: not classified as hazardous in normal use.

Dust from cutting, grinding, drilling and polishing (classification for the dust, consistent with OSHA HCS, WHMIS 2015 and the Japanese government GHS classification of quartz):

  • Carcinogenicity, Category 1A — H350: May cause cancer by inhalation (respirable crystalline silica)
  • Specific target organ toxicity, repeated exposure, Category 1 — H372: Causes damage to the lungs through prolonged or repeated inhalation (silicosis)
  • Dust may cause temporary mechanical irritation of eyes and airways (not a GHS classification).

Signal word for fabrication: DANGER. Pictogram: GHS08 (health hazard).

EU: respirable crystalline silica has no harmonised CLP classification; work generating respirable crystalline silica dust is listed as a carcinogenic process under Directive 2004/37/EC as amended by Directive (EU) 2017/2398.

03Composition

Crystalline silica (quartz, SiO₂) — CAS 14808-60-7Standard range: approx. 90% by weight¹
Low-silica rangeCrystalline silica max. 1% by weight, with laboratory report per batch
Resin binder (unsaturated polyester)Approx. 7–10% by weight¹
Inorganic pigments and additivesBelow 1% by weight¹
¹ NoteTypical values. The certified composition of each batch is stated on the laboratory certificate issued per shipment; request it before any order where the exact silica content must be declared.

04First-Aid Measures

  • Inhalation: Move to fresh air. Persistent cough or shortness of breath after dust exposure needs medical evaluation for silicosis.
  • Skin: Wash with soap and water.
  • Eyes: Rinse with water for at least 15 minutes; get medical advice if irritation persists.
  • Ingestion: Not an expected route of exposure for a solid slab.

07Handling and Storage

  • Store slabs upright on fully supported A-frame racks, in a dry, covered area.
  • Wet methods only. Dry cutting is banned in California and is not acceptable in any market.
  • Use water at the point of cutting, grinding and polishing, plus local exhaust ventilation with HEPA filtration.
  • Never dry-sweep or use compressed air on dust; use wet cleaning or an H-class / HEPA vacuum.

11Toxicological Information

Respirable crystalline silica is classified by IARC as a Group 1 human carcinogen. Long-term inhalation of fabrication dust can cause silicosis (an irreversible lung disease), lung cancer, COPD and kidney and autoimmune disease. The risk comes from dust during fabrication and installation, not from the finished, installed surface.

13–14Disposal and Transport

  • Solid offcuts: dispose of as inert construction waste under local rules.
  • Fabrication slurry: settle and dewater; dispose of as solid waste; never discharge to drains.
  • Not dangerous goods for sea, air or road transport (IMDG, IATA, ADR) in solid slab form.

15Regulatory Information

  • USA: OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200); OSHA Respirable Crystalline Silica Standard (29 CFR 1910.1053)
  • California: Cal/OSHA Title 8 §5204; STOP Act (SB 20), in force since 1 January 2026; draft emergency rule on artificial stone (see alert)
  • Canada: WHMIS 2015 / Hazardous Products Regulations; the SDS must be supplied in English and French
  • European Union: REACH (EC) No 1907/2006 — SDS to Annex II as amended by Regulation (EU) 2020/878; CLP (EC) No 1272/2008; Carcinogens Directive 2004/37/EC as amended by (EU) 2017/2398. The SDS must be in the official language of each country of supply.

  • Global: UN GHS (current revision)

This section is a condensed safety data summary for catalogue and specification use. A full 16-section Safety Data Sheet in the language of the destination country, a batch composition certificate and, where required, a NORM / radiological test report are issued with each shipment and are available on request against a confirmed order. Prepared November 2026; supersedes earlier safety references in this catalogue.
