Black Sand
The Black sand is a heavy black beach sediment, coming from the sources of the Nile and accumulating on some beaches. It is dark in color because it contains many heavy metals such as rutile, ilmenite, zircon, granite, magnetite and radioactive monazite. Egypt has an estimated reserve of 1.3 billion cubic meters of black sand, distributed among 11 sites on the northern coasts. These sites are located starting from the city of Rashid to Al-Arish along a coastline of 400 km.
