Egyptian black sand · heavy mineral sands
Black sand is a coastal heavy mineral sand. Along Egypt's Mediterranean coast it contains ilmenite, magnetite, zircon, garnet, rutile and smaller amounts of monazite, leucoxene and titanite. After gravity, magnetic and electrostatic separation, each mineral becomes a separate export product.
What the deposit contains
Typical share of each mineral in the heavy mineral concentrate. These are deposit figures, not product grades; product grades are on each mineral page.
From beach sand to container
- Coastal sand is concentrated to remove light silica.
- Gravity, magnetic and electrostatic separation produce single-mineral concentrates.
- The concentrate is assayed, bagged, re-sampled and weighed.
- Final assay and inspection before container loading at Alexandria or Damietta.
